First 'contact'

Postby Annapurna on Fri Apr 17, 2009

I think my first conscious ' contact' with Buddhism, or one of it's representatives, was, after Siddharta, the Dalai Lama.

I watched him on TV, or rather my mother did, and approved of him,and that was a quality sign for me.

My mother was very critical of the "Church"(Christian,)but not so with the Dalai Lama!

I was just as smitten. (Is that the right word?) :?:

I mean, I like him, very much.

And I had a dream of him, that may have a deeper meaning.

He was a guest in my house, and I was very happy about that,(In my dream)

I decided to go shopping with my car, but while still in town, realized that I would be missing time with him, and didn't even take the time to turn around, but drove backwards, with full speed.

The street was "empty". No traffic in my way...and I arrived in my street, and speeded up even more, too finally come "home" again...

There he was, awaiting me, in the open window....a big amused smile on his face.

In the other window sat my mystic cat Jeannie, (who had already passed, but waited for me like the Dalai Lama.I was so happy to see them both, and I also thought my mom was waiting in the house...

I slammed the breaks,to
'stop', before my 'house', but I couldn't stop the 'vehicle'!! -Desperate efforts to stop, passing my home.

Next thing I saw is the Dalai Lama running after me in the street with his robe flapping, looking very concerned...

And now I could stop the car, and it came to a still stand....

I took this dream as a symbol, saw me in the car.... traveling through lives....and he helped me to stop searching for seeking happiness in the world, I returned "home"and stopped my journey....

Which role my cat played, I'm not sure yet, but she sure was an amazing cat....
was horribly ashamed when I didn't approve of a dead mouse, and never brought one again.

Instead, she brought birds, unharmed, and begged for cream. Given cream, she would let me have the bird, to release it into freedom.

She seemed quite happy with the compromise....

How do I know she was ashamed?

She ran away and hid, not able to look at me, and it took a while until she was her joyful self again, after having made a 'mistake'....

I wasn't harsh, of course.... Image

This is a wonderful story Anna, thanks a lot for sharing :-D

It's very auspicious to have a dream of a high lama /\

Really? Wow... :)

I wish I knew more about Tibetan Buddhism. I read a book by HH, and it was so good.

I should read more...

Seeing him makes me so happy.

Thanks all. At the moment I can't watch videos, because my speakers are dead.

I would have to drive 20 minutes into the next town in deep snow, to get new ones, so w that will have to wait.

Another Jeannie story:

I got her very ill, 5 weeks old. It took months before I finally figured out how to heal her from diarrhea,-the vets had already given up.

When a fit of diarrhea came over her, and she ran to the toilet but lost some sh*t before she could get there, she was hiding, and when I discovered it, would lament in regret to show she was sorry to cause me work.

Isn't that amazing? But I never scolded her. It wasn't her fault, she was ill. She was happy when she made it to the toilet in time...

Anyhow, that little cat was a thankful cat.

It didn't only express itself in obedience, but also in attempts to support me.

One day, I painted my bureau.

I locked her out, until I was done, so she wouldn't get herself "painted".

When I was done and all paint was removed, I let her back in and she admired the result, sniffing and gazing.

I then proceeded to shove the furniture back to the walls.

One cupboard resisted my every attempt.

I rested and looked at Jeannie who had been watching me, and told her that I don't seem to be able to push it back to the wall.

Then I tried again. To my big surprise, my cat got up on her hind legs, and put her tiny "hands"onto the cupboard as well, and I shoved one more time.

The cupboard gave in, and Jeannie went back on all four... I thanked her, knelt down by her, caressed her: " Good girl!" and she seemed happy.

I don't think she had a lot of impact on the cupboard, but-- on me. I got encouraged, I got supported, at the right moment.

Jeannie was so special.

With metta,

Thanks for the story. :)

I wonder, was Jeannie a tuxedo cat?

Maybe she was a tiger in a previous life and stronger than she looked?
